On 15th May Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire are holding a Gala Charity showing of the original 1955 black and white 'DamBusters' film at the Kinema in the Woods, Woodhall Spa. The cinema is one of the oldest in the country and the film was made primarily on location in Lincolnshire. The event will be followed by a reception at the Petwood Hotel, which was the officers mess for the DamBusters Squadron following the move to Woodhall Spa. The whole evening is completely sold out. The RAF will be holding its own tribute to Guy Gibson and the airmen of 617 Squadron with a Sunset Ceremony at RAF Scampton on 16th May which will probably be broadcast live by the BBC. Then on Friday 17th May Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire has organised a service of Commemoration in Lincoln Cathedral. This event is being attended by people from all over the United Kingdom and from overseas. So popular is this event that all of the tickets have been taken up. If you are visiting Lincoln that afternoon do look out for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lancaster which will fly in tribute over the Cathedral after the service. The Joint Aircraft Recovery and Transport Squadron (JARTS) dismantled and loaded the Hunter yesterday at RAF Barkston Heath in preparation for its delivery to the Squadron this morning. The JARTS team expects to have the Hunter fully installed as the new 8 Squadron gate guard by early evening today. Taking longer to arrive than expected is a result of the complexities of moving the old 23 Squadron Phantom gate guard, and preparing the site ready for the Hunter. It was great to see Barry Dobson, who has now left the RAF and was the driving force behind this project, there to witness the installation. The Flying Display Committee had as difficult task as ever this year, with some outstanding displays from teams and aircraft from around the globe. More commonly known as the Erieye, due to its radar system, a total of 22 ERIEYE systems have been made by the Saab Group on different platforms, some of which serve with the Swedish Air Force on Saab 340's. This disappointing news follows the damage to two engines of the aircraft during a training flight at Robin Hood Airport on the 2nd of June. Whilst it is a great shame the aircraft will be unable to attend, the Vulcan team expect the aircraft will return to the skies later this summer. We too hope we are able to see the iconic shape of the Vulcan back in the skies very soon and wish the Vulcan to the Sky Trust very best in their efforts. The team, who reformed in 2009 to fly the indigenous T-50 Golden Eagle training aircraft, will arrive in the UK in mid-June and then display at RAF Waddington before moving onto RIAT and Farnborough. The Saudi Hawks, flying 6 British Aerospace Hawk jet trainers, painted in green and white the national colours of Saudi Arabia, were formed in 1998 to represent the Saudi nation and act as ambassadors across the world. The Wedgetail, which is the RAAF equivalent of RAF Waddington's own E-3D Sentry aircraft, is based at RAAF Williamtown on the east coast of Australia and will make the flight to the UK, after taking part in a major exercise in Alaska, solely for the airshow.
