RAF Waddington will welcome the RAAF Boeing 737 AEW&C Wedgetail!

17th February 2012

RAAF WedgetailThe Air Show is thrilled to announce the participation of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and its Boeing 737 AEW&C, Wedgetail aircraft at this year’s Air Show.  The Wedgetail, which is the RAAF equivalent of RAF Waddington’s own E-3D Sentry aircraft, is based at RAAF Williamtown on the east coast of Australia and will make the flight to the UK, after taking part in a major exercise in Alaska, solely for the airshow.  It will be the first time a RAAF Wedgetail has been to a UK Airshow since the first aircraft was delivered to Australia in 2009.

The Wedgetail joins the growing list of international participants, with the news that the Swiss F18 Hornet will make a welcome return after 10 years absence from the show, partnered by the Swiss Super Puma display, which has not been seen in the UK since 2001.


Top Award for the RAF Waddington International Air Show

The Royal British Legion (RBL), which provides support to serving and ex-Service personnel and their families, has awarded the RAF Waddington International Air Show its Courtesy Cup for 2012. RAF Waddington received the prestigious accolade from the Lincolnshire Branch of the RBL following its efforts to promote and raise the profile of the charity during its annual International Air Show.

The Lincolnshire Branch of the RBL is recognised as one of the most active and successful in the country and has been a regular attendee at the Air Show for many years now. Brigadier Barry Reeves, the President of the Lincolnshire Branch of the RBL will present the award to the Acting Station Commander RAF Waddington, Wing Commander Sean Donoghue at RAF Waddington on Friday 17th February.

RAF Waddington - All Change At The Top!

20th January 2012

RAF Waddington has a new Station Commander. Group Captain Al Gillespie ADC MA BSc (Hons) RAF took over from the outgoing Station Commander, Group Captain Chris Jones, on Monday 2 January 2012. Group Captain Gillespie is no stranger to the base having previously been stationed at RAF Waddington as Officer Commanding 23 Sqn. As the Station Commander and ISTAR Force Commander at RAF Waddington, Group Captain Gillespie takes command of the RAF’s Shadow R1, Sentinel R1, Reaper MQ-9 and E3-D Force Elements in addition to commanding the personnel of 51 Sqn currently providing trained personnel on deployment with the USAF’s Rivet Joint aircraft. We all hope that Santa was kind to you and trust you had a truly Merry Christmas. With just over 6 months until our next big day, its a good time to wish you all a Happy New Year.

The Airshow office is now open once again, as we start the countdown to the 30th June and 1st July, when the skies above Waddington will be filled by some of the worlds top aviators, teams and more!  

Initial interest from a number of nations is high for 2012 and our fingers are crossed that we will be able to confirm a number of participants very soon as talks progress through the next few months.


£117,500 raised from the 2011 RAF Waddington International Air Show

RAF Waddington has gone "sky high" with the proceeds raised in aid of Charity at the 2011 International Air Show. Both the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF) and The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) will each benefit from a whopping £50,000 donation. The local community are also set to benefit from a £17,500 donation to the Station Charities Fund.  Read full article here.


Air Show team at the British Military Tournament

9th December 2011

The Air Show team, with the support from RAF Waddington personnel, attended this year's British Military Tournament held at Earls Court, London, on 2, 3 and 4 December 2011. Air Show Public Aviation Viewing Enclosure facility will remain open as in previous years

After assessing the level of interest, and with due consideration of the views expressed, in the proposed ‘Friends of Waddington’ it has been decided that we will not be progressing the Friends of Waddington packages.  However, the RAF Waddington International Air Show Public Aviation Viewing Enclosure (PAVE) facility will remain as it has in previous years, with opening times and entry prices details being advertised over the coming months.

Thunderbirds’  display on Sunday 3 July 2011 will be from 1300 to 1400.

Therefore, during the Thunderbirds’ display from 1220 to 1400 on Sunday 3 July, members of the public must leave their vehicles and vacate the Yellow car park.

We regret the inconvenience but feel sure that you will feel it is worth it in order to allow this exciting display to go ahead.

Following a very successful Saturday, tickets will be on sale on the gates on Sunday but are subject to availability, and gates will open at 0800.

Please note that there may also be traffic delays, they will be dealt with quickly and promptly by the local Police and Traffic Management Company. To facilitate this please follow their instructions and not any GPS guidance.

The RAF Aviation Spectacular - hints and tips for your journey!

On Saturday 2 July come and meet Miss England, Jessica Linley, who will be presenting the RAF on AIR audio visual experience in Hangar 4.  On a Video Wall and live stage RAF on AIR will showcase interviews with display pilots, in-cockpit video, past RAF Waddington Air Show flying displays, future military capability exhibits, behind-the-scenes RAF activity as well as the chance to win Bomber Harris Chalets for 2012.

We strongly advise that visitors to this year’s RAF Waddington International Air Show plan to arrive at 8am at the earliest; visitors arriving before 8am will be directed onto off-base car parks, to avoid traffic congestion around the base.  Click here for further details on directions to the Air Show.

Countdown to Air Show with Carol Vorderman

Top UK celebrity and supporter of the RAF Wings Appeal Carol Vorderman will be the star attraction in a new RAF ON AIR multi-media area at the RAF Waddington Air Show on Sunday 3 July.

Attending the show to show her support for the valuable welfare work carried out by the RAF Wings Appeal, Carol Vorderman will also launch a national charity cycle challenge fronted by the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Red Arrows.

RAF Waddington welcomes return of Royal Jordanian Falcons

3rd April 2011

The RAF Waddington International Air Show will welcome back the Royal Jordanian Falcons display team this year!  The team displays in a 4-ship Extra-300 L formation presenting a blend of both formation and solo aerobatic performances.  The ‘Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Jordan’ displayed at RAF Waddington last time in 2005 and we are thrilled to have them back this year!


The Vulcan is Back

We are delighted to announce the return of the mighty Vulcan XH558 to the skies of Lincolnshire. Following its off-season maintenance period the Vulcan is expected to be available for a full season of displays in 2011 and this will include both days of the RAF Waddington International Air Show. The Thunderbirds are coming

We are delighted to announce that the USAF display team The Thunderbirds will be appearing at the 2011 show. Not seen at Waddington since the 2000 show this will be an occasion not to miss, it will also be the only show in the UK that they are attending. This fantastic team, flying the F-16 Falcon, brings an extra dimension to formation flying and you will only see it HERE. Don't delay.
