Display Information and Themes
On this page you can find information on the 2012 themes, invited nations and the progress with each nation. As aircraft confirm they will be added to the
Flying Display and
Static Display Section.
Flying into the Airshow
Each year we get a number of requests from owners of light aircraft and helicopters to fly into the airshow for a visit. Unfortunately we are unable to accept day visitors by air, largely due to limited parking areas with the influx of display aircraft and works in progress. A Helicopter shuttle service is
available here.
2012 Airshow Themes
CFS100
The Centenary Year of the Central Flying School.
2012 will see what is now known as the RAF's Central Flying School reach its 100th birthday, which also marks 100yrs of Military Aviation in the United Kingdom. The Central Flying School (CFS)which is steeped in prestige throughout the world and has had influences through many air forces and air arms. Widely regarded as t
he oldest flying school in the world, the RAF’s Central Flying School has a long and varied history from the earliest days of aviation, through to the present day where advances in technology have changed much of the way we do business. The School has trained many pilots, navigators and a wide variety of aircrew across it long and illustrious history. In the modern day the school is responsible for training instructors and maintaining standards throughout the UK armed forces and further afield.
AHL2012
The Year of Lincolnshire Aviation
Lincolnshire is widely known throughout the world as being a key player in the UK's long aviation history. Many people know the county was the home to the Dambusters, the birthplace of the Jet Engine and more recently the home to the RAF's Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows. However there is far more to the aviation heritage of 'Bomber County'. 2012 will see the culmination of the Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire (AHL) projects 3 year efforts to promote the past, present and future of aviation in Lincolnshire. The Airshow is proud to be part of the AHL group and to be part of the Lincolnshires aviation history, so in 2012 we will continue to work with AHL. Many of the countries invited to participate in 2012 have strong ties with Lincolnshire, largely through WW2, but also more recently through deployments and detachments, many here at Waddington. More information can be found about the work of AHL and its aims by clicking the Logo below.
Combat ISTAR
Combat Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance.
The role of Combat ISTAR has never been so important in the modern Air Power environment, as was highlighted well during recent operations in Libya. Combat ISTAR is at the very heart of RAF Waddington, after all it is what we do. With all things the role changes as technology develops and in the Combat ISTAR world, things move very quickly. This is our standing theme, demonstrating the work of the station, platforms, technology and its integration into the modern Air Power theatre, both in peacetime and operations.
